Art and nursing as acts of empowering people and appealing to people’s hearts

Takarazuka University’s unique education in art and nursing

Takarazuka University offers two specializations: art and nursing. Artistic creation can be described as an act of seeking to indirectly connect oneself with those who are not present, while nursing is an act of directly dealing with those who are right before oneself. The two seemingly different acts are in fact the same in their essence.

Act of appealing to people’s hearts

This is because both art and nursing are acts of moving people emotionally, healing and liberating them. The present-day situations surrounding art and nursing also point to some similarities between the two domains. The diversification and compartmentalization of media have greatly broadened the scope of artistic expression, just as advances in medicine have made it possible to overcome many diseases. However, these changes have not necessarily enriched people internally or reduced their anxieties or sufferings. What is lacking today, we believe, are art and nursing as means of empowering and inspiring people, and people who engage in artistic pursuits and nursing to act on people’s hearts. At Takarazuka University, education in art and nursing is conducted while their essence as acts of appealing to people’s hearts is steadfastly championed.

Education to draw out students’ potential and creativity

Students come to Takarazuka University for various reasons. Some are interested in drawing or painting, while others love looking after others. Students with only vague ideas at first are perfectly welcome here, for it is the University’s role to lead them to develop, specify, and concretize their ideas. Young people are often unaware of the great potential and creativity that they possess in them. It is Takarazuka University’s role to draw them out. To do this effectively, at Takarazuka, students are not oriented toward a specific goal from the beginning. Rather, their course of education is gradually determined, in consideration of their wishes and individuality under academic faculty members’ close attention and instruction. A small idea, even a daydream, can become a major creative project. This is what students can experience firsthand, learning at Takarazuka University.
